Our proposal for the extension of the Maxxi Museum in Rome is now exhibited in the museum as part of the show: Grande Maxxi, the finalist projects. In todays Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung the architectural critic #niklasmaak wrote about our soon to open #studierendenhaustubraunschweig. Apart from its unique program Niklas Maak pointed out the #demountablestructure as a way to make buildings last way beyond their conventional life span. In a different form in a different place, buildings like ours can be demounted and reassembled to serve a new purpose. A house for tomorrow and for all days. Our proposal for the extension of the Maxxi Museum in Rome is essentially a large industrial scale timber-frame structure on a rammed earth base covered by a large photovoltaic screen.

Can architecture be like an atmosphere? By using the energy of the sun, the installation behaves in synergy with natural timings and is a direct transformation of energy into architectural space. Known as the Coriolis Effect, waves similar to the Rossby Waves – giant serpentine streams of high altitude winds, largely responsible for the global weather, create a space that represents a new type of architecture which understands itself as part of a larger planetary system that is fluid, dynamic, and responsive.

A new project space in town, @fka_six is presenting seven positions on contemporary ruins. Until the end of the year at Ring Center I, Frankfurter Allee. With the help of various artistic, aesthetic and documentary positions, FKA SIX is intended to explore how Ring Center I on Frankfurter Allee could continue to be usable. Serving as a blueprint for the future – since more and more shopping malls worldwide are being demolished.
Until the conversion of Ring Center I at the end of 2022, FKA SIX will challenge artistic and architectural exhibitions, interventions and performances which will deal with the space of the so-called “Shopping Center” as a space of possibility and critique and not just as a building form. What forms of building recycling are possible? In what way can an outdated trade architecture be revived? What is the future of the city center in times of digitalization? The interim use of the sales area at Ring Center I is trying to challenge a cultural phenomenon and its disappearance. FKA SIX will be a cooperation with architects, artists and collectives in order to explore the possibilities of the “shopping center”.
Throwback to 2014 when we contributed the installation „Thicket“ with @barkowleibinger @fbarkow to the exhibition „how soon is now“ @galeriejudin. Made of over 4000 super thin metal rods the installation evokes a strong reaction of delusion and disorientation, just like being lost in a thicket.

Referencing Paul Virilio’s famous Bunker Archeology, the structure is protecting an interior from possible threats (hurricanes), whilst at the same time it’s orientation is activating the surrounding wild landscape.

The new Studierendenhaus marks the end of the campus and the beginning of the green belt along the River Oker. With its framed exterior space the building incorporates parts of the natural world. With @maxhacke
In love with this detail. The primary structure is entirely made of the same 10x10cm hollow profile. To keep the structure as slim as possible and to ensure a maximum of transparency we decided to mount the facade directly onto the primary structure. The hollow section also allows for the integration of wiring, necessary to provide an electricity grid within an open space concept. With @maxhacke and our favorite engineers from @knippershelbig
This diagram explains how our nearly finished Studierendenhaus functions within the larger campus context of the @tu.braunschweig. With its 8! entrances the building becomes a social hub, fostering interdisciplinary knowledge exchange through organizational principles. By connecting existing walkways the Studierendenhaus is a new type of campus infrastructure open to all students. With @maxhacke
This diagram explains our design strategy for the nearly finished Studierendenhaus on the grounds of the @tu.braunschweig. In order to create a contemporary, multi-disciplinary working environment, we decided for a 3 dimensional spatial concept where islands are created through platforms that are connected via bridges and stairs. This way we minimized traffic areas and ensured equal quality of desk space throughout the structure. We believe that not every activity throughout the year needs a facade, therefore our system continues outside, providing workstations in the exterior as well as shading devices for the facade.
